(Macau).- Macau welcomed more international visitors in November than during the same month in 2019, achieving this milestone for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, according to tourism authorities.

Macau Welcomes Record Number of International Tourists, Surpassing Pre-Pandemic Levels

In a statement, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) revealed that, based on official data, over 241,000 visitors from outside mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan arrived in the city during November. This marks a 20.9 per cent increase compared to November 2023 and a 7 per cent rise from the same period in 2019.

On 26 August, the MGTO launched a lottery featuring 100 travel packages, including airfare and hotel accommodation, aimed at attracting international tourists through an online survey. At the time, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes expressed optimism that Macau could draw over three million international visitors in 2025.

Overall, Macau recorded 2.83 million visitors in November, representing a 9.6 per cent rise compared to the same month in 2023 and 97.3 per cent of the figures recorded in November 2019, before the pandemic. In the first 11 months of 2024, Macau welcomed nearly 31.9 million visitors, reflecting a 26.2 per cent increase compared to the same period last year and 87.8 per cent of the total recorded between January and November 2019. In 2023, the city received 28.2 million visitors, nearly five times more than the previous year, though still shy of the record 39.4 million set in 2019.
